BEANS AND PEAS

-

You can sow seeds of french or runner beans, peas and certain brassicas into cell trays now, for early planting outside. Though most are hardy, they’ll all benefit from protection, either in a cold frame or greenhouse. use sterile potting compost. place one seed into each cell, allowing for a few extras, to replace any failed cells. Keep the sown cell trays in full light and make sure they don’t dry out. In a few weeks, the young plants will be large enough to transfer outside. If planted out before mid-May, french and runner bean plants will need frost protection such as horticultural fleece, anchored down in case of wind.
