The dastardly Mr Deedes
Generously built HSBC chairman Mark tucker is asked by German paper Handelsblatt if it’s true he arrived for a job interview with accountants PwC sporting two black eyes from a football match. He replies: ‘Not just two shiners, but I was also missing two teeth.’ Clearly PwC warmed to tucker, 60, rather more than the opposing team. they promptly offered him a job. British Land boss Chris Grigg hits out at the recent Presidents Club groping furore, saying: ‘I think the most disappointing thing is if this persuades people who ought to come into this business not to do so.’ Upright father-of-five Grigg, 58, appears to have no trouble attracting women to his board. In January, he lured a third, Countryside Properties’ finance chief, Becky Worthington, 45. John Lewis welcomed journalists to its revamped Westfield store yesterday, where hacks were served an uninspiring breakfast of granola (bleurgh!) and avocado toast. all except granite-jawed business presenter Ian King, who, to the envy and astonishment of dainty John Lewis boss Paula Nickolds, 44, had somehow armtwisted one of the store’s galley slaves into knocking him up a bulging bacon sandwich. Wily Mr King may be someone we need to keep a careful eye on. Time geeky Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg stepped aside? He was nowhere to be seen when news broke that political strategy firm Cambridge Analytica had harvested 50m Facebook users’ details. If past scandals are a guide, Zuckerberg, 33, will hide under his pillow
for several days before posting a spineless response. Reuters commentator Jeffrey Goldfarb is on-the-money when he says: ‘It may be time for more adult supervision.’
Luxembourg’s red-light district – the notorious rue de Strasbourg – is undergoing redevelopment as the city attempts to lure British bankers after Brexit. Known disparagingly as Luxembourg’s answer to the Bronx, residents complain about the ubiquity of prostitutes and drug dealers operating in the area. Most City traders will doubtless consider them local attractions.
