MILLER’S DIM GYM VIEWS ARE WIDE OF THE MARK

MAJOR winner and respected golf analyst Johnny Miller let himself down with an ignorant comment that Rory McIlroy would have won more recently if he had kept out of the gym. On Saturday, Miller said: ‘This is probably a controversial comment on Rory, but I think if he had never gone to a gym he would have played way better the last few years.’ McIlroy rendered it foolish with his win the following day, but it wasn’t controversial, it was just dumb. The fact is, if McIlroy hadn’t got into the gym, chances are the man who suffered from chronic back problems as a teenager wouldn’t be playing golf at all by now. Working with fitness coach Steve McGregor and building up his muscles helped save McIlroy’s career, not hinder it.
