Bellway homes record

-

BELLWAy said it was on target to build 10,000 homes in a single year for the first time in its 72-year history.

The Newcastle- based developer, which was set up in 1946, sold 4,741 new homes in the six months to the end of January.

That was 6.3pc more than the same period last year and put the company on course to build more than 10,000 over the full-year. It built a record 9,644 homes last year.

The comments will be music to the ears of Theresa May, who has called on builders to ‘step up and do their bit’ to solve the housing crisis in Britain.

Bellway reported a 15.3pc rise in half-year revenues to £ 1.3bn. Profits were up 16.6pc to £288.7m.
