I was burgled... police still hadn’t arrived 5 days later

-

DAVID Booth rang 999 after he was confronted by burglars – but was still waiting for police five days later.

The 41-year-old woke up when he heard a noise at 2am on April 2 last year, and found two men in the kitchen of his Bolton home.

After challenging the thieves, whom Mr Booth believes were planning to take his car keys, the bank worker chased them away.

On calling 999 he was told officers would come as soon as possible.

Then, an hour later, he received a call telling him there had been a delay, but officers would still visit.

The next day he was told police would not be coming to see him and the case had been passed on to a community policing team.

Five days after the crime had been committed Mr Booth told the Bolton News: ‘I think it’s just a bit of a shambles from start to finish and not what you expect from the police. The police are there to instil confidence and make you feel safe and they’ve not done that.’
