Sadie: I’m starting to feel invisible at 52

- By Laura Lambert TV and Radio Reporter

ACTRESS Sadie Frost says that at 52 she has started to feel ‘invisible and irrelevant’ now a new generation is commanding the spotlight.

The mother of four also lamented the rise of cosmetic surgery among celebrities her age, saying she could never go under the knife.

Miss Frost, the former wife of actor Jude Law, said she was too squeamish – and joked that she might instead simply remove all mirrors from her home.

Interviewed for a podcast, she said: ‘There is a lot of pressure when you are younger to deliver with work, to be ambitious, to constantly prove yourself.

‘I think I have definitely been a bit of a workaholic all my life, and I am quite happy now to step back and be a bit of a nerd, and happy about retiring quite soon. I have been looking in the mirror and thinking, “How do some people do it? How are they not actually ageing?”

‘I looked at the Golden Globes, and women that always looked so much older than me are now looking ten years younger than me.

‘Some friends were talking about cosmetic surgery. I’m so squeamish I couldn’t do that. The thought of someone cutting me, or any kind of scars, or being intrusive.

‘I am quite happy not to have the pressure, and let my kids get on with it. I can just become an old hippy and disappear – live in a house with no mirrors.’

She added: ‘You do start to feel invisible and irrelevant as well, because there is a new generation of people that are becoming more visible and relevant.’ Miss Frost, who was part of the 1990s Primrose Hill set and is friends with model Kate Moss, has three children with Law and a son with her first husband, musician Gary Kemp.

Speaking on the Get It Off Your Breasts topical podcast, she said she finds it hard to stop herself comparing her life to those of others on social media.

‘I try not to judge or compare myself, and do all the good things like yoga and meditation, but by nine o’clock I feel like someone has thrown 25 darts at me, because that anxiety of seeing that, or not being invited to something … It’s not a good thing,’ she said.

‘The more that is happening to me, the more simple I want my life to be. You realise your family is the most important thing … [you should] realise what you really need and what you really love, and what loves you.’
