Police probe web trolls hounding mum whose girl, 2, drowned in car

- By Tom Payne

police are investigating vile internet trolls hounding the parents of a twoyear-old girl who drowned.

Kiara Moore died when the Mini she was left in rolled down a slipway and into a river.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the tragedy on Monday afternoon and have asked the public ‘ not to speculate’ on the circumstances.

But dozens of heartless critics have used Facebook to accuse parents Kim Rowlands, 25, and 40-year-old Jethro Moore of neglect. The comments were left on a Facebook page set up by Kiara’s family for people to leave tributes. one critic, Dave Richards, told Mr Moore he ‘needs executing’, adding: ‘The ... mother needs arresting.’

The tragedy happened when the car rolled into the River Teifi in cardigan, west Wales while Kiara’s mother popped in to the office of her partner’s outdoor activities firm.

The couple initially called the police because they thought the vehicle had been stolen with the child inside. it was later found in the river by rescue teams.

one line of inquiry is that the electronic handbrake on the newly-bought Mini either failed or was not activated.

Sharon Thomas wrote online: ‘You can be the best parent in the world and make many mistakes along the way. But one that is unforgiveable is leaving your children for any amount of time which can put them at risk. Sorry, basic rule book.’

Another troll wrote: ‘if parents stopped leaving defenceless kids all by themselves, these things wouldn’t happen. poor child deserved better.’

A further stranger said: ‘You left your little girl on her own for way too long. She suffered and sadly passed away because of your Tragedy: Kim Rowlands with Kiara, who died after the Mini she was left in rolled down a slipway into a river thoughtless actions. She had so much to live for.’

Under guidelines introduced last year, the crown prosecution Service can pursue trolls over online abuse. Dyfed-powys police yesterday said they were reviewing ‘potentially malicious comments’ and that ‘action may be taken where appropriate’. Detectives are also due to interview Miss Rowlands. She could face prosecution if lawyers decide she put Kiara ‘at risk’ by leaving her alone.

An inquest has been opened and adjourned to a later date.
