Long wait for freedom

-

AT LAST, we’ve agreed a transition period for Brexit. From the time we voted to Leave, it will have taken five years instead of two. And the Government calls that a good deal. Political parties will be punished for this at the next election.

TERRY AUSTIN, Totnes, Devon. WHEN I voted to leave the EU, I did not expect a transition period. Now we’ve been told we will have to wait even longer before we’re free.

During this time our fishing grounds will be plundered and thousands more will be able to settle in Britain. That’s not why I voted for Brexit. ANTHONY CASTKA, Kettering, Northants. THOSE who voted Leave should realise there was a sizeable contrary vote. They will have to live with the outcome of some sort of concession being made to accommodate this part of the electorate’s dismay.

If the minority have their way, the fact that the issue was allowed to be decided on a simple majority might be the only comfort for Brexiteers.

JOHN COLLINS, Chelmsford, Essex.
