World Cup heartbreak for Scotland

-

SCOTLAND suffered an agonising World Cup qualifying defeat, missing out on a place at the 2019 competition after a rainaffected defeat by the West Indies in Harare — despite dismissing Chris Gayle first ball. The Scots were well-placed to upset the Windies and qualify before the weather intervened and consigned them to a fiverun defeat on the DLS method. After bowling West Indies out for 198, Scotland were 125 for five before rain forced the game to be called off with the Scots five runs shy of the par score. The result means Jason Holder’s West Indies side qualify at the expense of Scotland, who were looking to reach their fourth World Cup.
