Victim’s fury as Worboys avoids new rape charge

- By Ross Parker

A WOMAN who was allegedly raped by black cab rapist John Worboys spoke of her ‘disgust’ last night after prosecutors refused to review her case.

The married mother of three, who can be identified only as DSD, was allegedly attacked by Worboys in 2003 but he was never charged with the crime.

Worboys was convicted in 2009 of one rape, five sexual assaults, an attempted assault and 12 drug charges.

Many other women who came forward to report attacks were told that the prosecution would be better off just taking the most powerful cases to court.

Despite being given an indeterminate sentence, the Parole Board decided last year that Worboys was safe for release after serving just ten years.

Earlier this year DSD asked the Crown Prosecution Service to reconsider its decision and charge him with rape but was told this week that her bid had been rejected, despite new evidence emerging that proved she had been drugged.

At the time of her attack she was told there was sufficient evidence in her case to take Worboys to court, but the CPS did not want to overload the prosecution and charge Worboys for every attack.

Last night she described the decision as an ‘insult’ that would allow him to ‘get away’ with raping her.

‘The CPS are absolutely adamant. They’re sticking to their guns and will not look at any old cases,’ she told The Daily Telegraph. ‘It’s absolutely shocking. It feels like it’s all geared up to protect Worboys. The victims count for nothing. It’s disgusting. He’s got away with raping me.’

Despite being one of the serial sex attacker’s first alleged victims, DSD’s case was not among the 12 drug cases he was convicted of in court in 2008.

Last month her case was considered by the Supreme Court, where judges ruled the Metropolitan Police had bungled its investigation of her rape.

‘The police have always said no drugs were found in my system, but it was confirmed during the civil proceedings that there were Nytol [a sleeping aid] and antidepressants in my system,’ DSD said. ‘When the police were putting mine forward, they really wanted to use it because it showed the length of offending. The only reason the CPS apparently didn’t pick me is because I couldn’t identify his picture.

‘But they said that doesn’t mean you didn’t cross the evidential threshold because a lot of victims couldn’t identify him. They went for the ones that ticked the boxes, because they didn’t want any doubts.

‘It is so important that my case goes forward.

‘It wasn’t a sexual assault, it was a rape, and he was only ever convicted of one.’ She added: ‘We are all convinced that he will come out and reoffend. No woman is safe.’

A CPS spokesman said: ‘The CPS has been providing early investigative advice to the Metropolitan Police but no files have been submitted for a charging decision.’

Earlier this month it was revealed that Worboys will have to wear a tracking device and take lie detector tests if he is released from prison.
