Binned, 99% of salad with takeaways

-

JUST one per cent of salad given away in plastic bags with takeaway curries is actually eaten, a survey says.

It found most go straight in the bin unopened or are put in the fridge and dumped later. Others are left in the shop by people picking up their food or handed back to the delivery driver.

Some buyers fear bacteria and others say salad is simply a turn-off late at night.

Mark Hall of BusinessWaste. co.uk, which questioned 3,500 customers, urged takeaway owners to ask them if they wanted salad bags, adding: ‘Thousands of tons are going to waste.’
