FaSHIOn chain Ted Baker defied financial distress on the High Street to post bumper profits and sales.

Online shopping and north america lifted revenues 11.4pc to £591.7m in the year to January 27, in contrast to many retailers.

Profits surged by 12.3pc to £68.8m. Ted Baker has 532 stores, with 195 in the UK.

But the shares fell 12pc after chairman david Bernstein, said: ‘ We anticipate that external trading conditions will remain challenging across many of our global markets.’ Official figures reveal retail sales edged up just 0.6pc in February.
