Why IS this Bowie statue being put in Aylesbury?
HE WAS known for his south London roots and for his globetrotting lifestyle.
But the first statue of David Bowie has been placed in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.
Fans raised the cash to put the bronze sculpture there because the musician debuted his Ziggy Stardust character at Friars music club in the town in July 1972.
The bronze sculpture, called Earthly Messenger and designed by sculptor Andrew Sinclair, was unveiled in the Market Square yesterday.
It features a relaxed Bowie looking at several of his personas. Bowie died in 2016 aged 69 from cancer.
