Did airman kill himself over fears of being a new father?

-

THE FATHER of missing airman Corrie McKeague said he may have killed himself – as police admitted they were shelving an inquiry into his disappearance.

Martin McKeague spoke about his son (pictured right) after a sixmonth search at a landfill site in Cambridgeshire failed to find his body. He said Corrie could have been ‘profoundly’ affected by the revelation his girlfriend was pregnant. Mr McKeague, 23, is thought to have climbed into a commercial waste bin after a drunken night out in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, in September 2016, and died in the ‘waste disposal process’.

Suffolk Police announced they had ‘no realistic lines of enquiry left’ following an 18-month £2million probe. Officers admitted his remains could even be at another landfill site.

Martin McKeague, 49, told the Daily Mirror his son had suffered from depression and the imminent birth of his child ‘would have weighed on him heavily and he may have chosen to get in that bin, knowing what would happen’. A daughter, Ellie-Louise, was born in June last year to his ex-girlfriend April Oliver.
