STELLA (Penny Downie) longs to be an empty-nester, but her grown-up children will not leave — and have even installed their partners in the chaotic family home. Stella wants to move with her husband, Patrick (Duncan Preston), to a small house in the country, where the bathroom will always be clean and tidy, and order will reign. No one else in her family in the six-part sitcom RING AROUND THE BATH (RADIO 4 EXTRA, 5PM) is that keen on her plan.

JOSIENNE CLARKE (pictured) and Ben Walker play new and traditional music with great technical ability and without any affectation. They’ll be on THE FOLK SHOW WITH MARK RADCLIFFE (RADIO 2, 7PM) to perform songs from their excellent new album, Seedlings All.

MAVIS STAPLES, Booker T. Jones and Steve Cropper are among the Stax Records stars heard in MEMPHIS & MARTIN LUTHER KING (RADIO 2, 10PM), which covers events leading up to the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr on April 4, 1968. This four-part series marking the 50th anniversary of that event includes interviews from workers and their families who were humiliated, beaten and harassed on a daily basis for standing up for their rights. It’s a tough story, made all the more powerful by the Memphis music soundtrack.
