- NEW LANGUAGE

I once learnt French and German, But did not have much flair For le and la, der, die and das I could not really care. But English is a language I’ve always loved and so Have spent much time in studying Its constant changing flow. Now, way back in the Fifties, When I was young and jolly I used the modern phrases Like super, gosh and golly. I found that things were spiffing, And super and tremendous, And ‘I’m all right, Jack,’ I would cry, For life was quite stupendous. My granddaughters are modern girls, Have modern things to do, They find things cool, epic and beast And hang out with the crew. Oh, BTW, they have some bling, And iPhones, all the best, And they look sick when they are sad (I can’t recall the rest). So there we are, language evolves With every decade changing. Today’s young people will be here For the next re-arranging. Jill Rundle, Oundle, Northants.

The wedding invite came today! (Imagine, we all yelled ‘Hurray!’) But sadly, you see, It wasn’t to be; The postman had just lost his way! Robert Ben-Nathan, Denham, Bucks.
