LIKE baroness bakewell, i also fell for a ‘free’ sample of face cream (Mail). Fortunatel­y, i realised it was a scam and cancelled the direct debit.

On the advice of the Post Office clerk, another victim of this ruse, i returned the cream by the more expensive Track and Trace postal service, which proved i had cancelled before the deadline.

We older ladies are a pushover for beauty miracles, but i am afraid they are in short supply!
