How would you play in 4 ♥ , after west had opened 1 ♠ , and then leads ♠ AKQ? A NICe and easy one — as soon as I mention eliminatio­n play. You can afford to lose a club, but not a diamond. Let the opponents do it for you, by ‘eliminatin­g’ the other suits.

ruff the third spade, draw trumps (which break 3-1), then play three rounds of clubs. Whichever opponent wins the trick will have to give you a ruff and discard, or lead a diamond, which will pin the queen for you.
