Army boss named new Chief of the General Staff
THE head of the Army, General Sir Nick Carter, has been promoted to the head of the military, Downing Street announced last night.
Gen Carter will succeed Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach as Chief of the General Staff when he stands down in June to become chairman of Nato’s military committee.
Earlier this year, Gen Carter made a strong case for more money for his department, laying bare the scale of the threat and said Vladimir Putin could start hostilities against the West ‘sooner that we expect’.
He also warned of Russia’s ‘eyewatering’ military capabilities and said Britain’s ability to respond to the threat would be ‘eroded if we don’t match up to them now’.
