VARDY BUYS RONALDO’S BOOTS AFTER NIKE BUST-UP
JAMIE VARDY has been buying his own boots following a disagreement with sponsors Nike. The England man, who scored in Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw with Italy, split his usual pair in Leicester City’s 2-1 defeat at Everton on January 31. It is understood Nike wanted to replace them with a new style, which the 31-year-old is not thought to be a fan of. Instead, Vardy nipped to a sports shop to but a pair of CR7s — the boot inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo. Vardy, who has since bought more pairs of CR7s, is on a hot streak, scoring eight times in his last 11 appearances including his fierce drive to open the scoring at Wembley. Vardy’s Nike contract expires at the end of the season and he will keep wearing CR7s until further notice. After Leicester’s title success in 2016, Nike introduced the Vahrez boot, in honour of Vardy and Riyad Mahrez.
