Strikes to spark exam rewrites

-

UNIVERSITIES are set to re-write exam papers so students who missed lessons in the lecturers’ strike are not affected.

Bosses are considering cutting questions on topics which were not taught due to the walkouts.

It means some exams could be shortened, but students should still get the grades they would have received had the strike not gone ahead.

The University and College Union (UCU) ordered members to strike on 14 days spread across four weeks this term over changes to lecturers’ pensions.

Academics are considering a fresh offer to end the dispute. If no deal can be struck, more strikes will be timed to hit the summer exam period.

Cambridge University told Times Higher Education that department heads are considering whether to make changes, but a spokesman said ‘in most cases, no change to assessment will be required’.
