HOT CROSS FRENCH TOAST

YOU’LL NEED: Four buns (to serve four), three eggs, a few tbsps milk, butter, icing sugar mixed with a pinch of cinnamon, and fresh berries of your choice.

WHAT TO DO: Whisk eggs and milk together and tip into a large shallow dish. Slice buns in half and put them in the egg mixture to soak for half an hour.

Heat butter in a frying pan. Once it’s sizzling, add the egg-soaked buns and fry on each side for 2-3 mins, until the egg sets and turns golden. Serve hot, topped with cinnamon sugar and berries.

VERDICT: They smell gorgeous on the plate but the taste is underwhelm­ing. The buns are doughy, stodgy and still soggy — I can’t eat more than half. 2/10
