Prince Philip misses Maundy Service
PRINCE Philip missed the annual Maundy Service because of a problem with his hip, it is understood. The Duke of Edinburgh traditionally accompanies the Queen at the event, which was held at St George’s Chapel in Windsor yesterday.
The 96-year-old retired from royal duties last summer, but still accompanies the Queen on some engagements and was listed as a guest on the order of service. At the ceremony, which dates back centuries, the Queen offers alms to those recommended by clergy and ministers for their service to the church and local community.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: ‘The order of service was printed some weeks ago when it was hoped the Duke would be able to take part.’
