FLYING FRUIT

-

WHEN bringing Peter Rabbit to life, director Will Gluck says he wanted special effects so good that the characters looked like real rabbits.

To get it right, Will and his team of animators studied the anatomy and skeletons of european rabbits to work out how they move.

he says: ‘As ears are the one big feature that rabbits have, we used them, either up or down, to communicate how they were feeling and whether they were assertive or remorseful.’

As war rages over the vegetable patch, there’s lots of fruit throwing and exploding vegetables — scenes which ‘owe more to Saving Private Ryan than Bambi’, according to the special effects team.

But one scene brought some controversy, with filmgoers claiming it could promote bullying of children with allergies, when Mr McGregor, himself allergic to berries, is pelted with them by Peter. Sony, the studio behind the film, later apologised.
