TRIBUTE TO THE ORIGINAL

The real Peter Rabbit was a Belgian hare called Peter Piper, whom Beatrix bought from a shop in Shepherd’s Bush in the 1890s while working as an illustrator. his naughty ways inspired her to write a story for the five-year- old son of a friend, who had scarlet fever. To stay true to her vision, film-makers visited the archives to view Potter’s original drawings. however, Peter — voiced by James Corden — is given a makeover makeover, with a blue denim jacket (inset right) replacing his old-fashioned outfit. Beatrix also gets a part in the film, played by Australian actress Rose Byrne (far left).
