WHATBOOK..?
RUTH JONES
. ..are you reading now?
MUNICH by Robert Harris, and Reasons To Stay Alive by Matt Haig, which gives a profound, sensitive and enlightening insight into depression. I can’t recommend it enough for everyone, whether they’re depressed or not.
...would you take to a desert island?
HALLIWELL’S Film Guide, so I could learn the plots of all the films ever made, but if I had to choose one novel, I would pick David Copperfield by Charles Dickens because it’s brilliant, episodic and long.
...first gave you the reading bug?
I USED to love Enid Blyton as a child. And when I read The Mayor Of Casterbridge, aged 17, I developed a lifelong Actress and writer crush on Thomas Hardy — the dead writer, not the gorgeous film star . . .
. ..left you cold?
I’M AFRAID I’m not much of a Tolkien fan. I read The Hobbit, but it didn’t make me read Lord Of The Rings.
I felt similarly about Brave New World and 1984. They’re amazing books, but sci-fi and fantasy fiction aren’t for me, I’m afraid.
Never Greener by ruth Jones is out now (Bantam £12.99).
