Energy firm’s merger hopes

-

ENERGY supplier SSE has warned over the impact of a price cap and said the timing of its household operations merger with rival Npower is still unclear.

Britain’s Big Six energy firms are braced for regulatory changes this year and facing price caps on poorvalue tariffs.

SSE wants to merge its household supply and services business with Npower to create a new firm – turning the Big Six into five. But the deal is being probed by the Competition and Markets Authority.

‘The planned demerger of SSE’s GB household energy supply and services business remains on course but its timing, if approved, is not certain,’ SSE said.

It said it was already preparing for a merger which will see 8,000 staff transferred to the new group.
