CHECK FOR VINE WEEVIL

-

AFTER slugs and snails, vine weevil is the next worst garden pest. What’s more, you’re likely to discover an infestation only after the serious damage has been done.

Adult weevils do little harm other than nibbling the edges of evergreen leaves.

But the soil-borne larvae eat roots, swiftly destroying plants. Primroses, auriculas, heucheras and fuchsias are very vulnerable.

If you notice primulas keeling over or see bitemarks on rhododendron or bergenia leaves, you have vine weevils.

Apply nematode treatment to the affected areas as soon as conditions are favourable. Order from suppliers such as nematodesdirect.co.uk
