Well, fancy bumping into you!

IN one corner was Kate, in smart dark coat and hat. In the other was Zara Tindall, head to toe in bright blue.

Yesterday the stage was set for a battle royal of the bumps, as the Duchess of Cambridge and Zara, who are both heavily pregnant, attended the Easter service.

However, it was Kate who stole the show when it came to making an entrance – as she and William were the last of the Royal Family to arrive at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, turning up five minutes into the service, when the Queen had already gone in.

Protocol states that the monarch must always be the last to arrive for such events.

The couple, who are staying with the duchess’s parents, left their children with the Middletons in Berkshire, but blamed heavy traffic on the M4.

However, their faux pas could have been for a sweeter reason. Kate told well-wishers that there had been ‘great excitement’ that morning as Prince George, four, and Princess Charlotte, two, hunted for their Easter eggs.

‘They will probably still be finding eggs in six months’ time,’ she joked.

The duchess, 36, who is due to give birth to their third child this month, showed off her growing bump in a tailored coat by Catherine Walker that she first wore when pregnant with Princess Charlotte in 2015.

Yesterday is likely to be the last time she is seen in public before the baby’s arrival, which is due to be in mid to late April.

In contrast to Kate’s sombre outfit, the Queen embraced a brighter springtime look, donning a cerise pink coat with a floral dress and matching hat.

They were joined by pregnant Zara, whose second child is due in the summer. The 36-year-old attended without husband Mike or four-year-old daughter Mia.

The Duke of Edinburgh, who has retired from royal duties, was absent. It is understood he is still suffering problems with his hip.
