The new house from hell! Father finds 150 problems after buying £340k ‘dream home’

- By Liz Hull

AFTER spending nearly £340,000, Bryan Don expected to have his dream family home.

But hours after moving in to the newly built property, it was becoming more of a nightmare – as the father- of- one counted more than 150 problems.

The 42-year-old says the house was suffering leaks, faulty wardrobes, cracked plasterwork and a water-logged garden with no grass that he couldn’t enter without wellies. He also says the guttering was filled with rubble. Yesterday, more than three months on, he claimed he was still waiting for some of the issues to be fixed by Morris Homes, who built the property.

Last night Mr Don – a project manager who lives with his partner Zoe and his 11-year-old son – said: ‘It was meant to be a dream home. I work away and don’t get to see the family all the time. I pulled out every penny – but it has been horrendous.’ The family moved in to the property in Ollerton Grange, Liverpool, three days before Christmas last year. It cost £336,750 and Mr Don says he forked out an extra £16,500 for top-of-the range upgrades.

Despite this, he said the quality of the work was ‘shoddy’. He claimed jobs such as the tiling were of a poor standard, and the wardrobes were badly constructed meaning he couldn’t close the sliding doors.

‘We moved all our stuff in and I immediately started noticing the issues,’ he said. ‘By the early hours of the morning, I had 154. We’ve had to move items from room to room because one is always being worked on. It has been a nightmare.’

A spokesman for Morris Homes said they had been working to resolve the problems. He added: ‘We are sorry that, on this occasion, our customer is not completely satisfied. However, we believe any issues are now fully resolved.’ He said they had not yet laid the turf ‘due to the adverse weather’.
