POCH: WE NEED TO WIN AT PLACES LIKE THIS

- MATT BARLOW at Stamford Bridge

MAURICIO POCHETTINO hailed his team’s display as they won at Stamford Bridge for the first time since 1990. ‘To develop a winning mentality, we need to win at stadiums this, and like the Bernabeu, but also to compete in such games,’ said the Tottenham manager (left). ‘That’s fundamental. ‘It’s difficult to say if we are going to be successful if we finish in the top four or win the FA Cup. It’s step by step. ‘To finish in the top four for the third year in succession would be fantastic for the club. And we have the possibility to beat Manchester United and go to the final of the FA Cup, which would be fantastic. We are so happy with what we are doing this season. There is still a long way to the end, we need to be focused and try now to prepare for the next game. It will be tough against Stoke.’ Chelsea manager Antonio Conte said Dele Alli’s first goal, to put Spurs 2-1 ahead, was the turning point. He said: ‘We conceded the second goal and we lost our confidence. It was very difficult to come back. We all know the chance we had to try to reduce the gap to Tottenham. I think this season in many games we created many chances from which we didn’t score. Tottenham took the chances they had and they won the game. ‘You have to consider Tottenham one of the best teams in England. But I think in the end we deserve the season we have had.’ Conte had earlier sent his best wishes to Chelsea’s former captain Ray Wilkins, who remains critically ill in St George’s Hospital in southwest London following a cardiac arrest. Wilkins, 61, made over 170 appearances during six years at Stamford Bridge. ‘I’d like to start by saying we are very close to Ray and his family,’ Conte said in a tweet on the club’s official account. ‘Ray is a legend in the history of this club and our prayers are with them.’
