We are ashamed and it’s all our fault, says Tadic

- STEVE STAMMERS

THE frustration of Dusan Tadic was clear as Southampton surrendered in tepid fashion to illustrate the size of the challenge facing new manager Mark Hughes to keep the club in the Premier League. Tadic was part of a Southampton performance that lacked intensity, dynamism and commitment. Three down at half-time was game over — and the Serbia international made no effort to disguise the flaws. ‘We feel ashamed,’ said Tadic. ‘It is a very bad feeling and we have to take responsibility. It is just our mistakes, it is not the mistake of somebody else. ‘We need to be men. We need to take responsibility and to know what kind of situation we are in. And we are in a tough situation. ‘I have been here when we have had the best results of all time for Southampton and personally I feel very ashamed. It is a very tough moment. I think this is one of the worst moments of my career and it is a tough moment. ‘But we have to show we are men. We need to fight. ‘Every game you play you try to win. But obviously something is wrong. By this I mean something with me and all the players. It is not the fault of the coach, it is not the fault of the fans. It is not the fault of anyone else. It is just our fault. ‘We should be ashamed that we are in this kind of situation. ‘When the new coach came in we started to train better but when we come out on to the pitch on a Saturday we have to take responsibility. ‘We need to be men and we have to show guts.’ Tadic may have been dejected but Arnautovic was delighted. He appeared especially keen to remind Hughes of his talent given the Welshman sold him to West Ham when he was in charge at Stoke City. ‘I respect Mark Hughes and I respect what he has done for me,’ said the Austrian forward. ‘But I heard some things when he was talking about me — and they were not good things. ‘I am only doing my job and if I score against Mark Hughes’ team it is nothing personal. ‘I try to score in every game and I don’t feel sorry for anybody.’ Arnautovic also spoke about the West Ham supporters and the atmosphere inside the ground. ‘We know that when our fans are behind us, they are amazing,’ he said. ‘We gave them what they wanted.’
