Honours for the deserving

-

I ENDOrSE robert Hardman’s comments on the absurdity of the honours system (Mail).

I nominated someone who, at their own expense, had for five decades spent all their spare time on charitable work.

While our public-funded Olympians receive honours almost the minute they return home, I was told that if my nomination was successful, it could take two to three years before the award was made.

I was also surprised to be asked how many people would be pleased if my nominee received an honour.

It is time to go back to giving honours to those who genuinely deserve them, not athletes, celebs, spivs, failed politicians and tacky pop stars.
