IT’S A BRITT HARD TO TAKE

- LAURIE WHITWELL at the Pirelli Stadium

NIGEL CLOUGH called Britt Assombalonga’s 90th-minute goal that denied Burton a first home win since September an ‘injustice’ and Tony Pulis could hardly disagree. Pulis criticised his players for a laboured performance but was thankful for the late equaliser that keeps Middlesbrough in the hunt for a play-off place. Burton would have moved off the bottom with victory but instead sit five points from safety and appear destined for League One. Marvin Sordell gave Burton the lead in the sixth minute, sweeping home Lloyd Dyer’s cross. But substitute Assombalonga headed his 13th goal of the season after Jack Harrison’s shot had rebounded off the bar. ‘It’s right up there in terms of injustice,’ said Clough. ‘We contained them very well. They brought a £15m striker off bench, which is a different world to the one we operate in.’ Pulis said: ‘They fully deserved to be winning, but it’s a vital point for us.’
