Two arrested over alleged terror plot

-

TWO men were being questioned on suspicion of terrorism offences last night after armed police stormed a suburban bungalow and arrested them.

Neighbours said they heard loud explosions as masked officers broke into the property early yesterday. A semi-detached house on the same street in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, was also raided.

The men, aged 21 and 52, were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.

Police said the arrests were ‘intelligence led’. A spokesman added: ‘They have been detained at a police station in West Yorkshire for questioning.

‘Two residential addresses are being searched in connection with the ongoing investigation.

Yesterday forensic officers appeared to be focusing their efforts on the bungalow. Azhar Khan, 26, who lives opposite, said: ‘There were around seven or eight armed police on the road outside the house and two unmarked police cars. Five people broke the door down and were shouting.’

The raids happened around a mile from the former home of Mohammad Sidique Khan, ringleader of the 7/7 bombings that killed 52 people in London in July 2005.
