Cartoon villain... the grinning police e-fit that’s criminally funny

-

WITH his remarkably toothy grin, he looks more like a cartoon character than a burglary suspect.

But this e-fit is genuine, although it provoked hilarity rather than help when police shared it on social media yesterday.

His wide smile was retweeted 2,200 times and drew comparisons to Bingo from Banana Splits and the Cheshire Cat from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

The e-fit was issued by Warwickshire Police after a burglary on February 5 in which two men conned their way into a woman’s flat in Stratford-upon-Avon and stole cash. Andy Martindale tweeted: ‘Was it his mile-wide grin that distracted people?’

Liz Sutton asked: ‘Is that a late April Fool?’

Warwickshire Police said: ‘We can confirm that this is real and we anticipated the attention! Jokes aside, it was created from a description provided. Hopefully the attention will mean we identify the offender quicker.’
