Saudis ban spying on wives’ phones
MEN and women who snoop on their partner’s phone in Saudi Arabia could now face up to a year in prison.
The punishment has been brought in to ‘protect privacy’ and uphold ‘morals of individuals and society’, according to the country’s ministry of culture.
Saudi laws on divorce often require wives seeking alimony to provide evidence of abuse or sexual promiscuity – and a husband’s phone can be a rich source of evidence. Anyone found guilty the new Anti-Cyber Crime Law could face a year in prison or a fine of up to 500,000 Saudi riyal (£94,950).
