OSKAR NIGHT
Dane gets a point for careless Wolves
There were murmurs of confusion around Molineux when Oskar Buur rasmussen was sent on for his Championship debut as a late replacement for Diogo Jota.
Clearly not many knew of the 20-year-old Dane, who was only in the squad because of suspensions to ruben Neves and Matt Doherty.
But seven minutes from the end Buur announced himself with a pinpoint header to salvage a point for Wolves just as hull anticipated an unlikely victory.
Nuno espirito Santo’s side will need to be much better for Friday’s trip to Cardiff as the Championship’s top two meet in a match that could go a long way to deciding the title. For his reward, Buur will be back training with the youth team today.
‘Oskar is a boy working well in the Under 23s who has been doing well,’ said Nuno. ‘Today was the moment, he helped the team, so good for him and good for us.’
hull boss Nigel Adkins rightly acclaimed his team for a disciplined display.
‘We came up with a gameplan, changed some personnel to suit that, and against the championselect we were good value for a point,’ he said. ‘All the players were outstanding.’
Jota returned after a two-match absence to operate as a false nine as Benik Afobe dropped to the bench despite scoring four goals in five games. Within 20 minutes the decision was vindicated. A silky smooth move involving helder Costa and Ivan Cavaleiro saw Jota burst into the box and cut back too adroitly for Michael hector, who left out a leg that the forward promptly fell over.
Jota rose to convert the penalty past Allan McGregor for his 15th goal of a marvellous season.
But as half-time approached a suicidal pass by Costa allowed David Meyler in and roderick Miranda felt he had no choice but to hook an arm and bring him down. Meyler duly levelled from the spot.
Nuno responded at the interval by taking off Miranda, bringing on Afobe and repositioning Cavaleiro at wing-back. But the errors kept coming and with 12 minutes to go ryan Bennett sent the ball into his own net from Kamil Grosicki’s low cross.
Wolves responded when Barry Douglas found space on the left to cross. Burr connected sweetly to make himself an unlikely hero.
