Sport uproots Gardeners’ World again!

-

AFTER the second coldest March in a century, many of us are eager to get back to work on our gardens.

so the news that tomorrow’s gardeners’ World has been replaced with women’s football has angered horticulture fans.

Monty don, who presents the long-running BBC2 show, has previously called similar moves ‘galling’.

The 8pm slot will be replaced by coverage of england women’s World Cup qualifier against Wales.

gardeners’ World, which had up to 2.6million viewers last year, is also set to lose out to the World snooker Championship later this month.

Fans slammed the BBC for depriving them of their weekly fix. One tweeted: ‘When is the BBC going to realise that gardeners’ World is not a moveable feast? Put your bloody sport on BBC4 if you must show it at all, but stop depriving a huge audience from its favourite programme.’ Another tweeted: ‘The BBC always meddle with gW! #HandsOff.’

Others complained the programme was being postponed during ‘probably the most important season for gardening’.

Matthew Appleby, of magazine Horticulture Week, said the BBC was ‘failing the nation’s gardeners, who rely on Monty for tips’. The broadcaster insisted it was bound by its contractual commitments to air sporting events.
