Baby’s body is dumped near woods

THE body of a newborn baby was found in a field yesterday morning.

Police were called after a member of the public found the body dumped close to woodland in Heywood, Greater Manchester.

Officers sealed off the area, which is popular with dog walkers, and said they were treating the death as suspicious. A post-mortem examination will take place today.

It was unclear whether the body was that of a boy or a girl, but a police officer was seen carrying a cream and pink moses basket to the spot where the baby was found.
