A MAN strangled a 20-year- old stranger to death during sex – just hours after they had met at a bus stop.

Supermarket worker Chloe Miazek died within seconds of being seized by the neck by 32-year-old Mark Bruce.

The pair had a ‘shared interest in erotic asphyxiation’, a court heard.

Yesterday Bruce was jailed for six years after admitting culpable homicide.

They had met in the early hours of November 3 last year after Bruce had been out drinking and Miss Miazek had been thrown out of a nightclub.

They began talking at a bus stop before heading to Bruce’s flat. The pair went to bed at about 3.30am and Miss Miazek was killed during sex.

CCTV footage showed support worker Bruce leave his home and wander around for an hour before going to a police station. He told officers: ‘I’ve killed someone. There’s a female in my bed.’

Jo McDonald, prosecuting, told the High Court in Edinburgh: ‘His explanation is he placed his hands around her neck during sexual intercourse. The evidence suggests death is likely to have been quick – seconds rather than minutes.’

The court also heard that a former boyfriend of Miss Miazek had told investigators that she was ‘interested’ in sexual asphyxiation.

Brian McConnachie QC, defending, said that Burce, of Aberdeen, recognised the ‘catastrophic’ impact of his actions.

He said: ‘He accepts full responsibility for the death of Miss Miazek and he has done so from the earliest opportunity.

‘He did not intend her to die. It would seem to be a complete coincidence that Mr Bruce met another person who shared his interest in that particular activity.

‘The sexual act which was taking place was consensual. There was no intention on Mr Bruce’s part to cause her harm.’ Jailing Bruce and placing him on the sex ‘Shared interest’: Mark Bruce, 32 offenders’ register, judge Lord Kinclaven told him: ‘I take into account your actions following the death of Miss Miazek.

‘I recognise you attended a police station soon after the death of Miss Miazek. I also take into account your expressions of remorse.

‘I take into account that you recognise your criminal behaviour has had a catastrophic impact on the lives of your victim’s family and friends. There is nothing this court can do to ease their pain and suffering. However, you have been convicted of culpable homicide.

‘There is no other way to deal with you – the imposition of a custodial sentence is the only disposal available to me.’

Last night the parents of Miss Miazek, from Kemnay in Aberdeenshire, said: ‘No matter the outcome or what has been said in court, Chloe – our beautiful daughter – was a young girl in the prime of her life who did not deserve to die.

‘She was thoughtful, caring and intelligent and was loved dearly by her entire family and many friends. Losing a child is every parent’s worst nightmare, but it’s a reality we now face.

‘We will always remember Chloe for the loving girl she was and will forever keep that memory alive.’
