Ministers target airlines
PLASTIC cutlery will be ditched on planes and water fountains installed in airports as part of a plan to make flying more environmentally friendly.
Ministers will today publish a strategy to make British airports and airlines the ‘world’s greenest’. It will also include a clampdown on ‘air rage’ passengers that cause flights to divert.
They will pledge to work with the industry to reduce singleuse plastics, including looking at the packaging of in-flight meals and wrapping given with blankets on long-haul journeys.
Airports will be told to introduce more water fountains and increase the recycling of plastic bottles. Other proposals include the introduction of new noise targets, strengthened noise controls at airports and more compensation for people living near airports.
