The smart set’s talking about... Sophie Simnett

POLDARK has turned the handsome couple who play Ross and Demelza, Aidan Turner and Eleanor Tomlinson, into household names — and now the BBC’s Sunday night drama could be about to create another star.

Sophie Simnett, 20, has been cast as a character called Andromeda Page in the forthcoming series, and her well- heeled friends are sure she’ll make the most of the golden opportunity. Chums from her £18,192-per-year alma mater, Putney High School, in South-West London, remember her as fiercely ambitious.

Meanwhile, her mother enjoys ‘embarrassingly’ recalling how Sophie would point to the stage when she was a little girl and ask: ‘How do I get up there?’

Although she missed six months of school in her final year, she still managed to achieve top marks in her A-levels.

Sophie already has a youthful fan club, thanks to her role in the Disney Channel’s hit musical drama The Lodge.

Her most devoted admirer is, however, her boyfriend, actor Luke Newton, 21, whom she met on the set and now lives with in Chiswick, West London.

So, what did she make of her time on Poldark? ‘Really fun — apart from the corsets.’
