READER’S QUESTION

-

I’D LIKE bluebells but want English ones, rather than the invasive Spanish variety. How do I know which is which and where can I buy them?

P. Clark, Pinner, Middlesex. NATivE bluebells Hyacinthoides non-scripta have thinner, often taller stems which bow at the top with flowers hanging to one side while Spanish bluebells have stout stems with chubby, less waisted flowers shaped more like bells.

Buy H. non-scripta at crocus.co.uk or in the green from wildflowershop.co.uk.
