UK Google staff average £200k a year

GOOGLE staff in the UK were paid an average of £200,000 last year, according to new accounts.

The internet giant spent almost £657 million on its annual wage bill for its 3,300 employees. The average Briton earns about £27,200 per year.

Tax campaigners said the high earnings blew a hole in the company’s claim that the most valuable parts of its business are back at its main base in the United States.

Google has been criticised for routing billions of pounds it makes from sales here through complex company structures, allowing it to reduce its tax bill.

Richard Murphy, of Tax Research UK, said: ‘You have got the UK, the EU and the IMF all looking at this issue now. Like other tech companies, Google is in the last-chance saloon.’
