After cancelling his tour, Peter Kay pops in to surprise fans

PETER Kay surprised fans gathered for a charity screening of his latest TV show – by walking on to the stage to introduce it.

It was his first public appearance since cancelling his national comedy tour due to ‘unforeseen family circumstances’ four months ago.

Kay thanked the audience in Blackpool for attending the premiere of the final episodes of Car Share, the BBC1 comedy series in which he stars with Sian Gibson.

During his brief appearance he made a bizarre reference to disgraced BBC star Jimmy Savile, doing impressions of him and using his catchphrase ‘Now then, now then’. He added: ‘I’d like to say we forgive you but we don’t.’

He then told the audience to ‘enjoy the last ever episode of Car Share’. Warning them not to give away the script, he added: ‘Don’t tell anyone the end. Or tell anyone about any hedgehogs.’ He then left the stage,

saying: ‘So thank you. Lots of love, enjoy, take care, bye bye.’

In December, Kay called off his Have Gags, Will Travel tour, which was expected to bring in £40million. Audience member Alison Moore, 45, said: ‘People were shouting out that they loved him... He seemed really fine, relaxed and genuinely touched.’ Car Share will be broadcast in May.
