JOY FOR BIG MAC-CRINGTON STANLEY!

-

THERE was only one place Accrington’s players were going for their celebratory meal after Saturday’s 1-0 win at Colchester — McDonald’s! Stanley’s Twitter account posted this photo of their triumphant squad under the golden arches and club owner Andy Holt captioned it: ‘Just passing’. Holt had run into trouble with the Football League last week after admitting he gives his players £200 to buy McDonald’s each time they win. Remarkably, officials wrote to the League Two leaders suggesting this ‘treat’ was an incentive to win and describing Holt’s fun gesture as ‘payment of additional monies’. The League demanded an explanation because the meals were ‘not part of standard player contracts’. Holt was staggered and said: ‘You do have to wonder what these folk would do with their life if it wasn’t for my errors of judgment. ‘I don’t for one minute think anything’s untoward in my actions. At least the EFL keep an eye on my Twitter feed.’ After Holt revealed the probe, the League backed down and told him he could carry on splashing out.
