Eye drops to fix sight so you can get rid of glasses
SCIENTISTS in Israel have created eye drops that could one day help patients avoid glasses.
The ‘nanodrops’ contain tiny particles of proteins that correct issues on the eye’s cornea (the transparent layer at the front).
Experts at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem said they corrected near-sight and far-sight issues in pigs.
First, a photo of the eye is taken. Then, a doctor uses a laser to make grooves in the cornea to a specific pattern, depending on the correction needed. The nanodrops are applied to fill these grooves.
This is said to change the way the cornea refracts light and corrects vision permanently. Clinical trials are planned in two years.
