Feeling vulnerable
I CONVERTED to the Jewish faith in 2012 and know that anti-Semitic attitudes, such as those displayed by certain militant members of the Labour Party, occur worldwide.
As part of my conversion ceremony, the rabbis warned me about growing anti-Semitism in Britain to make sure I understood what I could be faced with.
It is a sad indictment that it is deemed necessary for synagogues to have security guards. Jews have been unjustly persecuted for 3,000 years. With only around 15 million worldwide, the stereotyped myth that ‘Jews control everything’ needs to be finally stamped out.
I fail to understand why anyone would want to spread or tolerate anti-Semitic views in our supposedly enlightened and democratic country.
It is imperative that leaders of all political parties demonstrate unity and support for our small and vulnerable community.
