Stitching up the WI

-

WeLL done to Women’s Institute member Stephanie Gaunt, of east Sussex, for standing up for the organisation’s values and traditions ( mail) against ‘hipster members’.

The reason the WI has stood the test of time is because it carries on with what it does best: organising fund-raising events, outings and activities to benefit the local area and not ‘getting angry and making demands’.

The militant Shoreditch Sisters — who embroidered female genitals on a patchwork quilt — have every right to set up their own organisation where they can do things their way, but shouldn’t claim to be part of the WI movement.

S. AITKEN, Buckingham. mrS GAUNT should move with the times. Good for the Shoreditch Sisters in their efforts at revamping the outmoded, stuffy WI. HELGA CHARMAN,
